Louis H. Zbinden III, MD

Dr. Zbinden is currently serving as Vice-President of Surgical Specialists of Charlotte. He graduated cum laude from Davidson College and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He returned to North Carolina in 1990 and completed his general surgery internship and residency here in Charlotte at Carolinas Medical Center.

Dr. Zbinden is Board Certified in General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a current member of both the North Carolina Medical Society and the Mecklenburg County Medical Society. He is also on the teaching faculty at Carolinas Medical Center.

Dr. Zbinden has served as chairman of the departments of surgery at CMC-Mercy and CMC-Pineville. He is past-president of the medical staff of CMC-Pineville. Currently he serves as chairman of the credentials committee for both CMC-Mercy and Pineville. Additionally, he was recently elected chairman of the new CMC-Charlotte "system-wide" credentials committee. He was elected "physician of the year" at CMC-Pineville in 2007. He also serves as a trauma surgeon for Carolinas Medical Center.

Dr. Zbinden specializes in vein care and the minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins at our own Accredited Vascular Laboratory, the Vein Care Center of SSC. He has extensive experience in all modes of treatment of varicose veins and venous stasis disease, including radiofrequency ablation, phlebectomy and sclerotherapy. He also has extensive training and experience in performing a full range of general surgical specialty care. He has particular interests in endocrine surgery for thyroid and parathyroid disorders as well as laparoscopic procedures including hernia repair and gallbladder removal.

Dr. Zbinden is always welcoming new patients at our Pineville, Randolph Road and Mercy Medical Plaza locations, and performs surgery in both the CMC and Presbyterian hospital systems.
