James A. Watkins, MD

Dr. Watkins, one of the two founding members of former Dilworth Surgical Specialists, has been in practice for 28 years. He received his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University and the University of Alabama. He then went to Meharry Medical College, where he received his Medical Degree. His General Surgical Internship and Residency were spent at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D. C.

Dr. Watkins is Board Certified in General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is the Assistant Professor on the Clinical Faculty Advisory Committee at the University of North Carolina Department of Surgery.

He serves as President of Medical Staff, as well as Chief and Chairman of General Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy. He is also on the Trauma Surgeon Staff at Carolinas Medical Center.

Dr. Watkins has expertise in Vascular and all aspects of General Surgery. He has special interest in Hyperbaric Medicine for problem wound care management, and treats these patients at Carolinas Wound Care Center-Mercy.

Dr. Watkins is accepting new patients at the Uptown Charlotte location as well as the Pineville office location.
