Dr. Godwin is a native South Carolinian. He graduated from The Citadel with a B.S. in Biology. He then graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina with his Medical Degree and completed his general surgery residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Godwin then practiced in his hometown of Cheraw, South Carolina for two years before moving to Charlotte.
Dr. Godwin is board certified with the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the
American College of Surgeons. He-is also a member of the North Carolina Surgical
Society, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the American Hernia Society.
Dr. Godwin's particular interests include laparoscopic surgery (performing the first
laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and appendectomy in the Carolinas), abdominal hernia repairs and disease of the breast.
Dr. Godwin enjoys spending time with his wife, Kim, six daughters, and one
granddaughter. Other interests include hunting, fishing, tennis and golf. He and his
family are members of Providence Baptist Church.
