Dr. Michael W. Dobson came to Charlotte in July 2007.  After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia, Dr. Dobson attended medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.  Dr. Dobson completed his General Surgery training at New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he received several awards including The Maxwell Award for excellence in surgery.  Dr. Dobson then went on for further specialized surgical training in the field of Colon and Rectal Surgery at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.  There, he was honored with the award for the most outstanding colorectal surgical fellow.  Dr. Dobson is currently the director of the Colorectal Surgery Center at Surgical Specialists of Charlotte.

Dr. Dobson specializes in colon and rectal surgery.  He performs advanced laparoscopic surgery for benign and malignant colorectal disease.  He has a special interest in the surgical treatment of colon and rectal cancers, as well as inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis.  Dr. Dobson employs the latest techniques in minimally invasive surgery to help care for his patients.  He performs numerous colonoscopies to identify and treat colon polyps.  Furthermore, Dr. Dobson provides both office based and surgical treatment for anorectal diseases, such as hemorrhoids.  In addition to colon and rectal surgery, Dr. Dobson also enjoys caring for a wide variety of general surgery conditions such as hernias, and gallbladder disease.
