Dr. Sandra Giller completed her surgical training at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center with a strong emphasis in trauma and critical care. After residency, she helped develop an acute care surgical program at a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma with more than 900 patient beds.

Dr. Giller is acting director of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Department at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center and provides a full range of general and acute surgical care for hospitalized and emergency department patients.

Dr. Charles Hill, a native of North Carolina, is an honors graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his Medical Degree from Wake Forest University. He remained at Wake Forest for his internship in general surgery before completing his general surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center. Dr. Hill then traveled to Texas for his fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Hill is board certified by The American Board of Surgery. He is an expert in the management of foregut disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus and achalasia. Dr. Hill provides a full range of general surgery care including gallbladder, colon and small bowel, as well as all types of hernias. His advanced training allows him to employ the least invasive therapeutic techniques whenever possible, including laparoscopic, robotic and endoscopic approaches.

Dr. George Waterhouse joins Surgical Specialists of Charlotte, P.A. after having worked in Jackson, WY for a general and vascular surgery practice.

Dr. Waterhouse earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He continued on to get his Medical Degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. After graduating from the University of North Carolina, Dr. Waterhouse completed an internship in general surgery through Vanderbilt University Affiliated Hospitals and went on to do his residency there as well.

Dr. Waterhouse is Board Certified in General Surgery. He is an active member in the American Society of General Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons as well as the American Trauma Society. He is also a member of the Wyoming Medical Society.

Leslie T. Webster III, M.D.

Dr. Webster is board certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He provides a full range of general surgical specialty care including:

Heidi Weilbach, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Heidi Weilbach is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is a member of several professional societies including the American College of Surgeons, the Eastern Association of the Surgery of Trauma, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (the preeminent laparoscopic surgery organization) and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Dr. Weilbach is experienced in the care of trauma and general surgery patients as well as those with acute or emergency surgical diseases.

Dr. Weilbach practices exclusively at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte where she provides the full range of general and acute surgical care to hospitalized and emergency department patients who are in need of urgent or emergency surgical services.

Louis H. Zbinden III, M.D., F.A.C.S.

College: Davidson College

Medical School: University of Texas Southwestern Medical School

Surgical Residency: Carolinas Medical Center

Dr. Zbinden is President of Surgical Specialists of Charlotte, P.A. and was formerly Vice-President.

He graduated Cum Laude from Davidson College and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He returned to North Carolina in 1990 and completed his general surgery internship and residency here in Charlotte at Carolinas Medical Center.

Dr. Zbinden has served as chairman of the departments of surgery at CMC-Mercy and CMC-Pineville. He is past-president of the medical staff of CMC-Pineville. Currently he serves as chairman of the credentials committee for both CMC-Mercy and Pineville. Additionally, he was recently elected chairman of the new CMC-Charlotte "system-wide" credentials committee. He was elected "physician of the year" at CMC-Pineville in 2007.

Dr. Zbinden provides the full range of general surgical care, including treatment of which includes laparoscopic approaches where appropriate in:

Vickie Blackburn, NP

Vickie Blackburn is a licensed and Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with over 30 years experience in the surgical arena.

Vickie graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina and received a Master of Science in Nursing, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina. Vickie’s honors include induction into the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society.

Vickie is an active member of the Metrolina Nurse Practitioner Group, the Association of Operating Room Nurses Leadership Assembly and the Association of Operating Room Nurses.

Rachelle graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master's of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the Medical University of South Carolina. While at MUSC, Rachelle was named Valedictorian of the 2009 graduating class. She is experienced in general surgery and trauma and sees patients in our Pineville office.

Stephan Rothwell, PA-C

Stephan Rothwell is a licensed and certified Physician Assistant who joined the staff of Surgical Specialists of Charlotte, P.A. in May 2011.

Stephan graduated with a Bachelor in Science in Zoology from North Carolina State University and later received a Master’s of Physician Assistant Studies from Wingate University. During his medical studies, Stephan completed an extensive array of clinical rotations in numerous hospitals throughout the state of North Carolina.

As the physician assistant for the TACS service, Stephan works with the physicians and is involved in patient care in both hospital and office settings. In addition to his clinical role with Surgical Specialists of Charlotte, Stephan is also part of the clinical faculty for Wingate University.

Stephan is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants as well as the American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants.

Lila Skropeta is a licensed and Board Certified Physician Assistant who joined Surgical Specialists of Charlotte, P.A. in February 2016.

After graduation she worked as a researcher with the Veterans Administration. She went on to receive a Master in Physician Assistant Practices from the University of Southern California.
