A fully trained surgeon is a physician who, after medical school, has gone through years of training in an accredited residency program to learn the specialized skills of a surgeon. One good sign of a surgeon's competence is certification by the American Board of Surgery. All board certified surgeons have completed an approved residency training program and have passed several rigorous examinations. All surgeons in our group undergo re-certification testing every 10 years in accordance with Board requirements.
To insure that our surgeons remain up-to-date in their specialized areas, they must participate in a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program. This includes attending meetings, seminars, lectures and journals.
